So you’ve decided to pursue a future in esthetics. Congratulations! We’re excited you’ve chosen to enter this part of the beauty industry. Becoming a licensed esthetician can be an extremely fulfilling career choice. The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that the job outlook for estheticians/skin care specialists will grow by 17% between now and 2029.

At Inspire Greatness Aveda Institutes, our esthiology program can prepare you to offer a wide variety of skincare, body, and hair removal services.

Specific services depend on the individual esthetician and state requirements, but these are the most common services typically offered by licensed estheticians.

Skin Analysis

A skin analysis is the first step of any facial appointment. During the analysis, an esthetician will determine the client’s skin type, skin conditions, and the best treatment options. Doing a skin analysis is a key step of any facial, as it can rule out products or treatments that will have a negative effect on the client’s skin.

Facial Treatments

Once the skin analysis is done, there are a variety of facial treatments an esthetician can perform. Regular facial treatments can help clients with a variety of skin concerns, including acne, dryness, fine lines, melasma, rosacea, and hyperpigmentation. As an esthetician, you could help your future clients feel more confident and beautiful in their own skin.

Here are a few examples of facial treatments you could offer as a licensed esthetician!

European (Classic) Facial

Cleansing, extractions, head, and neck massage.

Lymphatic Massage Facial

Targets points on the face to eliminate tension and temporarily reduce puffiness.

Acupuncture Facial

Uses acupuncture needles to target fine lines like crow’s feet and frown lines, which can improve skin’s overall radiance and appearance.

Microdermabrasion

Exfoliates away layers of dead, dull skin that accumulate from age and years of sun exposure. A jet buffs the skin with micronized crystals and then vacuums dead skin cells away.

LED Light Facial

Uses the specific wavelengths in LED light to calm breakouts and inflammation. Results can be seen in one to three treatments.

Anti-Aging Facial

Fights the signs of aging through cleansing, resurfacing, brightening, and hydrating.

Brightening Facial

Uses a combination of masks, enzyme peels, and acid treatments to remove dead skin for dewy, glowing skin.

Hydrafacial

Uses a device to cleanse and decongest the skin and then infuses the skin with a vitamin-rich hydrating serum.

Dermaplaning

Uses an exfoliating blade to skim dead skin cells and hair from the face, resulting in smoother, more radiant skin.

Chemical Peels

  • AHA/BHA Peel
  • Glycolic Peel
  • Lactic Peel
  • TCA Peel<//li>
  • Pigment Balancing Peel

Waxing and Hair Removal

Whether you’re waxing eyebrows or removing hair from the legs or underarms, many people visit estheticians to get smooth, hairless skin. While at-home hair removal is possible, clients can rely on professional estheticians to safely and effectively remove hair without causing a rash or skin irritation.

Makeup Application

Thanks to social media, makeup tutorials, and product reviews are more popular than ever! Licensed estheticians can offer makeup consultations, color matching, and professional makeup application. So if you’re just as passionate about makeup as you are about skincare, this could be a great career for you.

Lash and Brow Services

If you’re passionate about beauty, you know that brow and lash treatments are huge these days. As a licensed esthetician, you can offer in-demand services like lash and brow tinting, lash lifts, brow shaping, brow threading, and even lash extensions. Offering these popular services is a great way to increase your earning potential and build a solid client base.
