Professional Development

The next section is focused on professional development and is 30 hours. Students will read and study FranklinCovey’s The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People to help them understand what it takes to be a professional and a leader. They will also learn about interpersonal skills and additional leadership techniques.

Educator Certification

What Does a Beauty Educator Do?

Beauty educators are licensed instructors who teach aspiring cosmetologists and estheticians how to perform beauty services effectively and efficiently. Beauty educators can be licensed to teach cosmetology, esthiology, or both. They have deep knowledge and experience of the professions and help pass their skills onto the next generation. Typical responsibilities of a beauty educator or instructor include:

  • Creating lesson plans and assignments
  • Teaching lessons on cosmetology, hairstyling, hair design, skin care, etc.
  • Demonstrating proper techniques and how to use equipment
  • Assessing students’ work and providing suggestions
  • Following and teaching safety and sanitation procedures
  • Building classroom culture and a positive learning environment
  • Mentoring students and answering their questions
  • Showcasing classroom and clinic floor management skills
  • Supervising students performing beauty services in clinics

Beauty educators have a lot of responsibilities. If you’re interested in performing these job duties to enhance the next generation of beauty professionals, consider becoming a beauty educator at Inspire Greatness Aveda Institutes.

Why Become a Beauty Educator?

There are several benefits to becoming a cosmetology or esthiology educator. If you’re already passionate about beauty and enjoy providing beauty services, why not teach other students how to succeed in the beauty industry? Advantages of becoming a beauty educator include:

  • Professional growth opportunities: Beauty educators can find work in many different settings and can even advance to administrators or salon owners.
  • Mentorship opportunities: educators can make lasting relationships with their students, mentoring them and helping them to thrive in their careers.
  • Rewarding feeling: Beauty educators get to turn their passion for beauty into teaching students and can watch them improve their skills over time, which can be very satisfying.
  • Continuing education: Beauty educators must keep up with new trends, techniques, and technologies, which means they must continue training and education throughout their careers.

These are just some of the benefits that pursuing a career as a beauty educator can offer. Jobs in the beauty industry are also expected to have a bright job outlook. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the overall employment for barbers, hairdressers, hairstylists, cosmetologists, and related jobs is expected to grow 7% through 2033. This is faster than the average for all occupations. As the employment of hairdressers and cosmetologists is strong, the demand for qualified and passionate beauty educators is also needed.
